A major milestone for climate-resilient infrastructure and economic empowerment in Sindh!
On February 24th, 2025, the PAIDAR programme (EU-funded, implemented by UNIDO) signed a EUR 5 million agreement with the Sindh People’s Housing for Flood Affectees (SPHF) to develop climate-resilient communal infrastructure in some of Sindh’s most flood-affected villages. This initiative will provide essential services like clean water, sanitation, roads, and energy, ensuring sustainable recovery for communities. Additionally, EUR 2.35 million in SME Business Development Grants were awarded to 18 promising entrepreneurs across manufacturing, food processing, renewable energy, and handicrafts—a game-changer for Sindh’s economic ecosystem! 🚀
Chief Minister Sindh, Syed Murad Ali Shah, highlighted that by integrating resilient housing with sustainable infrastructure, we are not just rebuilding but creating self-sufficient communities.
Ms. Barbara Riksen and Mr. Carlo De Rosa from the European Union Delegation, reaffirmed that the EU remains committed to fostering long-term infrastructure and economic resilience, ensuring sustainable opportunities for communities.
Mr. Steffen Kaeser, Senior Technical Advisor & Programme Manager for PAIDAR, emphasized that “PAIDAR is about building a stronger, more resilient Sindh—where infrastructure, entrepreneurship, and innovation drive sustainable development. Our partnerships with SPHF, SEDF, and the Government of Sindh are key to achieving this vision.”
Special Assistant to CM Sindh, Mr. Syed Qasim Naveed Qamar, noted that SEDF has been instrumental in equipping businesses with technical expertise and financial tools. Moreover, SPHF CEO, Mr. Khalid Mehmood Shaikh, highlighted that this initiative complements SPHF’s reconstruction of 2 million flood-resilient homes, ensuring communities haveaccess to essential services.
This initiative wouldn’t have been possible without the invaluable contributions of SPHF, SEDF, the European Union, UNIDO, and all partners working towards a stronger, more resilient and prosperous Sindh.
